Why Are Women In Business So Afraid to Mentor Other Women?
Women in leadership positions restrict opportunities and create roadblocks for other career-driven women in business because they often feel “vulnerable” in their positions when there are other aspiring women in the company. Women in leadership also tend to have biased attitudes towards other women and they are more ruthless and less empathetic. This lack of self-confidence stops them from mentoring other women who want to ascend to the top of the organization.
If women are going to rise up in leadership positions, they need to be mentored and supported by female leaders, who have the experience and knowledge of “breaking the glass ceiling” and overcoming other barriers as leaders. To do so, women in leadership must first abandon the thinking that since they struggled to reach leadership roles, other women with similar ambitions must struggle also. They also need to be more confident in their role as leaders.
